This year Geneva Club focused its study on the 5 points of Calvinism. Through this study, members have come to a clearer understanding and a better appreciation of John Calvin. It has been a pleasure to explore Calvin and the foundations of
Reformed faith during the year that marks the 500th birthday of Calvin. While its hard to top Calvin, Geneva Club members are currently studying Predictably Irrational, a book about behavioral economics. The book opens up conversations about “free will.” This is certainly lighter reading than it sounds, but the purpose of the book and the surrounding discussions is to illuminate societal effects on our ”free will.” Discussions are often pithy and reformed in nature. You don’t have to be reading the book to join us, all are welcome. The Geneva Club members are striving to: Connect with your Depravity… Follow the call of Unconditional Election and Limited Atonement . . . Serve driven by Irresistible Grace.
As a side note, we try to send one of our group members to seminary every 4 years. Our last seminary contribution was in 2004, ( Mark Vander Pol) so we are looking for more volunteers, or we will be forced to send George Pierson (chair and associate professor of philosophy at Trinity) back to seminary.
If you would like to join Geneva Club, they meet every Thursday morning at 8:30 a.m. at the Palos Gardens Restaurant. We will be getting Geneva Club Tattoos in the Spring so sign up soon. (T.U.L.I.P. Tats of course!)
