A Birth. Last Sunday, September 5, Mark and Sandy Hamstra (with the U.S. Army in Colorado Springs, CO) gave birth to a son, Cade Axel. Along with his grandparents Roger and Audrey Dryfhout, let us thank God for Cade and pray that God richly blesses him along with his older brother, Tyce, and their parents.
New Members. Last evening, the Bannon Family—Greg, Jamie, and infant son Gavin; Daniel Leffring; and Margaret Somerville met with the Elders to testify of their faith in Jesus Christ and their desire to belong to His Body. Let us pray that each person will grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ as they worship and serve Him.
Palos Christian Preschool. This Friday, September 9 marks the beginning of the Fall semester, when students and teachers meet for a shortened session. Let’s ask the Lord to calm any upset children and to use this school to lead all the students closer to Jesus.
Special Care. Please pray for Hank Ipema, who continues in a weakened condition at Manor Care West (on Southwest Highway) in Palos Heights.
Our New Senior Pastor and Family. Thank God that they arrived safely and have made significant progress toward settling into their new home. Pastor Janke has even done some work that couldn’t wait until next week. Let us now pray that the Janke’s—Pastor Greg, Kim, Rachel, and other family members—will receive a warm welcome and that the congregation’s love for them will grow from there.
Public Worship this Sunday, September 12. Please pray that the Lord will be glorified and His people built up as we gather before Him. We resume our schedule of two Morning Worship Services, beginning at 9:00 and 10:30 AM. During morning worship, Pastor Mensink will preach on 1 Thessalonians 5:12-13—“AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE MOST PREACHERS AVOID.” At 6:00 PM, the congregation and guests will gather for the Installation of Rev. Greg Janke as Senior Pastor. The service will include the message, “A STEWARD OF GOD’S OPEN SECRETS,” given by Pastor Tim Holwerda of Bauer Christian Reformed Church in Hudsonville, MI. In addition to participation by several church officers, the Celebration Choir will sing.
Kid’s Club. Please pray for teachers and students in our Sunday School, who begin their Fall season at 10:30 AM, also this Sunday, September 12. Pray that God will use the experience to lead people to “FOLLOW JESUS . . . CONNECT WITH HIS CHURCH . . . and SERVE IN HIS WORLD.” If you know a teacher or student, please mention them by name.
Congregational Leaders. On Tuesday evening, September 14, the Executive Committee of Council will meet to set the direction and agenda for the Church Council. Please pray that God will lead Palos Church to move forward, toward the vision He has for our future.
