As a congregration, we are affiliated with the Christian Reformed Church in America, a denomination that consists of more than 700 congregations distributed throughout the United States and Canada. The Christian Reformed Church stems historically from the Calvinistic branch of the 16th Century Reformation, and more immediately, from the Reformed churches, which had their origin in the Netherlands. The Christian Reformed Church in America had its beginnings in Western Michigan in 1857. Our particular congregation was organized in Palos Heights in 1955.
We believe from the Holy Scriptures that humanity is a fallen race in need of being restored to the love and favor of God. We believe that God has been and is today calling people out of a world of rebellion, hatred and confusion to enjoy a new relationship of love, peace, and joy in Him and a new harmony with their fellow men and the created world.
In receiving this new life, however, a person must turn from his self-centeredness and commit himself to Jesus Christ, God’s son, who, through His death, bore the penalty of our sin and restores us to God’s favor. Jesus Christ is Lord of Creation, and becomes our loving Lord when we trust our lives to Him. In Him we become a new creation, gaining a life with real meaning and a purpose, which will extend into Eternity.
The Palos Heights Christian Reformed Church does not exist for itself; rather, it seeks to be a community of Christ’s people. We seek to express Christ’s love among ourselves and extend it to others who do not know Him. Christ, today, is building His kingdom through His Worl and His Spirit, and we who would be his faithful followers must know His will for our lives. We stress the importance of studying the Scriptures and teaching our children its truths. We stress, too, the need for mutual admonition, encouragement, and support in living the kind of lives that testify to the love of which has claimed us.
